Safety Committee Goals
One representative from each Department in the Harvard Institutes of Medicine (HIM) facility
and the New Research Building (NRB) is required to attend each meeting, unless the training is specified as optional. The function of this committee will be to serve as a primary communication link between the research community and the HIM/NRB facility management group, including the Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) office.
The safety committee meets on a quarterly basis. The meetings
are used to provide updates on health and safety policies/procedures
at HIM/NRB and any facility related changes/concerns. Committee members
serve as a primary contact for EH&S issues and assist in the completion
of corrective actions required as a result of inspections by HIM/NRB EH&S
and outside regulatory agents. Departments are also expected to create
their own safety committee that will meet at least six (6) times per year.
Safety committees are a critical component in creating a healthy
and safe work environment at HIM/NRB. There are numerous local, state,
and federal regulatory issues that must be addressed. The committee
structure will allow us to obtain compliance with the regulatory
requirements with minimal interruption of the ongoing research.
It is the HIM/NRB EH&S office’s goal to maintain compliance with minimal
disruption to research activities.
Please contact the HIM/NRB EH&S office at 617-432-2762 if you have
any questions.
